Natural pearls are formed organically when an irritant finds its way into the oyster’s soft tissue. This irritant could be seawater, sand or anything minute that activates the mollusc’s defence mechanism, causing it to produce layers of secretions. The secretion, called nacre, slowly develops into a natural pearl.

South Sea pearls are the largest and most luxurious pearls in the world. Cultivated in the warm, clean waters of the South Pacific, they are treasured for their exceptionally thick nacre, soft glow (called a satiny luster), and natural rarity. Golden South Sea pearls, in particular, are prized for their warm, regal hue and are often considered the most valuable of all pearl types.
